Under Armour is heading for good times

Under Armour's future is looking bright! The company has just announced a 68 % jump in the first quarter profits and the share price if on the up.

I am not surprised that the company is doing so well. In my view, their products are superior to other in the same price class. They look trendy, come in different fittings, styles and colours, they wash well - but most importantly they do whey say they are going to e.g. they have a fantastic wicking qualities. The Heatgear is keeping you cool when it's hot, and Coldgear does the reverse when it's cold.

Once I bought my first bit of Under Armour stuff - easy enough online - I have never looked back. And I recommend it everyone who is looking for good quality gear at affordable prices.

Under Armour Heatgear now selling like hotcakes!

Under Armour Brand
With the nice weather, unsurprisingly - Under Armour Heatgear sales are on the up.

The excellent qualities of the Under Armour technical sportswear - that keep you cool when it's hot - is the answer to the prayers for everyone out training when the weather gets hot. Gone are the days when the tshirt got soaking wet as soon as you started your run, football training or a game of golf. The wicking qualities of the materials used have been specially developed to help you maximise your performance.

This gear comes with a price tag, but they look good and wash well. They also keep well, so if you got kids out there wearing this gear to keep them comfortable, don't worry when they grow out it. You can pass them on without any worries to be worn a second time around. Under Armour is such a desirable brand now that kids will not mind even if it's not brand new. You can pass them on to your kids to wear under their training tops, or give them to the charity shops - I can guarantee you that they will not sit on the shelves very long.

Under Armour Tee
The kit can be found both as short and long sleeve tops, tops with a turtle or crew neck, with or without quarter or full zip, shorts and leggings as well as hats, caps, gloves, underwear - so pretty much as anything you would wear to keep both cool, and warm as there is also the Coldgear option for the winter months.

Also available in many colours and cut in loose, fitted or compression for men, women and junior sizes.

Under Armour fast becoming the top brand for performance gear

A year ago, very few of us had heard about Under Armour sports brand and most of us would not have called base layers by names like ColdGear and Heatgear! But how things have changed in the last year...

This is now becoming the number one preferred brand by sportsmen, women and teams. And you know that's it's the brand to be seen in when teenagers are insisting on wearing it.

Who are they? Under Armour gear comes from America where they are well known for their well fitting, moisture wicking clothing designed to be worn under sportswear. The company was founded in 1996 by Kevin Plank, an America football player who invented the product to wear in stead of sweat soaked T-shirts. The company is now a supplier of a range of sportswear and other sports stuff such as footwear, headgear and mouth gear and the company continues to expand its offerings. Their products are now widely available, not just in the US but in the UK, Europe and elsewhere all over the world.

The gear is really good but it does not come cheap. You will pay over £20 for a short sleeve T-shirt and a long sleeve one can cost anything up to £40. What's fabulous though is that you can choose your preferred fit from loose to tight depending what you preference is.

There is a good choice of products for men, women and children and they come in various colours too. They may come across as expensive, but they are so durable that in the long run, you will get your moneys worth from your Under Armour gear.

Where Nike and Adidas used to have almost a monopoly on high profile sponsorships, there are now several sports teams in the UK sponsored by Under Armour such as the Welsh Rugby team, and now Tottenham Hotspurs football team being the latest to announce their shirt deal with Under Armour.

Under Armour Heatgear - great for skiing...

I'm just back from my annual skiing holiday. This year we went to the Dolomites in Italy and stayed in a charming small town called Arabba with a fantastic access to a vast ski area including the famous Stella Ronda.

I didn't need to buy that much performance gear as over the years I have accummulated a perfect bag ful of base layers and other ski gear that serve me well. However, there was one surprise in my kit bag! I had by mistake taken some Under Armour Heatgear with me - you know the stuff that you wear when it's hot and you want to keep cool. Anyway, I had to put it on the last day of skiing, and to my absolute surprise it was the best base layer I could have wished for. We skied hard that day, the last day of our holiday! Normally, I would have been so hot, but the Heatgear kept me cool and confortable the whole day.

From now on, I am going to pack a few of those in my kitbag to go with all the other useful stuff like socks, gloves, neck warmers, hankies, suntan lotion, camera, sunglasses, goggles etc.

Cold weather technical sports wear

The weather is turning cold. There was a time when that would have stopped adults and kids alike from all sports activity outdoors. But there is no need for that today. Despite the unusually cold weather this early in the year all over the UK, we still want to get out doors and do our stuff.

The good news is that modern technology now helps to produce cold weather gear that keeps us both warm, dry and comfortable what ever the weather. Companies such as Under Armour and Canterbury manufacture base layer clothing for men, women and children in various colours and types. They come as tops and bottoms, as well as underwear and accessories with a choice of colours.

To buy your own coldgear base layers, you find a selection of products on the high street as well as a choice of online retailers. This gear is a bit "technical", so it worth while spending a little bit of time before you part with your cash. The gear is brilliant, but it is not cheap e.g. you don't want to rush and buy just to find out from others that there is a more suitable product on the market, for a bargain price else where! For example, the gear comes is three different fits - compression, standard and loose - and it's worth thinking through what is the right one for you!

Designing Performance Sportswear

Performance Sportswear Design BA (Hons)

Those were the days when you pulled on a t-shirt to go training. If you are into getting fit, paying sports like rugby, football or golf, or any other outdoor pursuits, you will most probably already be wearing performance sportswear such as baselayers

We take most of these things for granted. You just go to sport shops or online, find the products we like, choose size, colour, delivery address and payment method and we are ready to go. The only challenge with buying this kind of clothing is the price. You pay a premium for this kind of gear.

But once you have bought performance sportswear, you cannot go back to the old T-shirts. They just won't do the job as well as a well designed baselayer from companies such as Under Armour or Canterbury.

I came across something the other day which started explaining the price of this clothing. It is not just about something to wear but to develop and design technical sportswear requires skills and to have skills you need education and/or training.

Well - this is the thing! You can go to Uni and get a degree in this stuff. I picked up the following on the University College of Falmouth's website:

Performance Sportswear Design (BA) Hons

Course description
From research and drawing to scientific exploration and fabric testing, students experience all aspects of designing performance sportswear; through both hand drawing and digital technologies, students demonstrate their design ideas as well as experiment with the latest fabrics, from neoprene to Polartec, and construction methods like flatlocking and blindstitching.
Course modules
Level 1: Design and construction; designer in society; production and presentation; industrial, professional and global contexts.
Level 2: Human factors; computer-aided design and manufacturing; international branding; professional practice: work placement.
Level 3: Professional design practice; professional design project proposal; dissertation; final project.

The course if a full time, 3 year education.

If designing and manufacturing sportswear today takes a university degree to achieve, that could be one of the reasons for the price of developing and producing it. The R&D as well as marketing budgets of someone like Nike and Adidas are astronomical and not all their products fly long term as fashion plays an increasingly large role in how we choose our kit. No wonder successful sports men, women and teams are paid a fortune in sponsorship to wear their gear to raise awareness of the latest in sports gear.

But despite the investment you need to make to have these items, you can truly feel the benefits of wearing them as they prolong the time you can stay active by offering protection from cold weather, heat, wet conditions and any mobility restriction.
